Thorpe Light Railway, formerly the Whorlton Lido Railway, is the last 15” gauge miniature pleasure railway in County Durham.
The railway was restored in 2012 by the Friends of Thorpe Light Railway, a group of enthusiastic volunteers with a shared love for trains. The Friends became a registered charity in 2017 and are working hard to restore the railway to its former glory. Volunteers meet regularly to carry out maintenance and improvement works to the locomotives, rolling stock, railway infrastructure, station and grounds. We open the railway once a month throughout the summer, giving you a chance for a train ride through a scenic and historic corner of Teesdale.
Help us keep the trains running for future generations by becoming a member.
